Chupacabra
Most often described as a reptilian humanoid with a greenish-grey leathery (or scaly) hide, the chupacabra is one of the most well-known cryptids on Earth. Often shown with a line of sharp quills along its spine, it is generally reported as standing at a height of between three and four feet on elongated hind legs, with descriptions of its facial features ranging from dog-like, to panther-like, to sometimes being similar to the popularized image of a grey alien. In some cases, it has been reported as having a pair of bat-like wings.
The first sighting of this cryptid was reported in 1975 by a goat farmer in the township of Canóvanas, Puerto Rico. A number of the farmer's herd had been attacked and drained of their blood through small puncture wounds on the neck, giving rise to the creature's name (from the Spanish "chupar", meaning "to suck" and "cabra", meaning "goat"). Since then, sightings have been reported over a huge geographical span, including Chile, Colombia, Brazil, El Salvador, Mexico, the southern United States, and even central Russia. However, most of its fame rises from its Central American roots.
When threatened, the chupacabra has commonly been reported to hiss, screech, and bare fangs. In more isolated incidents it has been said that it will give off a sinister red glow from its eyes, leap a distance of up to twenty feet, and sometimes give off a noxious, sulfuric odor.
Speculations abound regarding the origin of the chupacabra. Some theorize that it is an abandoned species of pet left behind by visiting extraterrestrials. Others believe it to be the result of escaped government experiments on reptile genetics. Perhaps most outlandishly, there are some who explain that chupacabras are humans of the future, traveling back in time to prevent their ancestors from taking actions which led to mankind evolving with reptilian characteristics.
There have been no reported cases of the chupacabra attacking a human being, but it should still be regarded as highly hazardous, due to its sharp teeth, quills, powerful hind legs, and the possibility of noxious odor emissions. Cryptozoologists seeking it are advised that it tends to attack at night near herds of cattle. For those looking to capture the creature, negating the use of its powerful hind legs should be your first plan of action, either through netting or noose-trapping.
